This "cold" universal shoe adapter meant to fit into Sony's Active Interface Shoe to allow lights, mics and other universal shoe mount accessories to be mounted to the camcorder. Known compatible camcorders are HDR-HC1, HC3, HC5, HC7, SR1, UX1 and UX5 models,all Sony brand. The HVR-A1 is also compatible, but not advised because it requires the user to go without the A1's XLR block. The AIS-FLAT is a cold shoe mount adapter only. It does not pass-through the audio or power connections present in the AIS shoe on the camcorder
